Privacy policy

Overview

Baitboats respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this website, how we use it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

• Order details: your name, email, phone, shipping and billing address, collected through Stripe Checkout when you place an order.
• Enquiries: your name, email, and message when you use the contact form.
• Site usage: analytics about how the site is used (pages viewed, products viewed, items added to the cart, device type, approximate location and the ad or website that referred you), collected through Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel.
• Cart contents: stored locally in your browser only. Never sent to our server until you check out.

What we do NOT collect

We do not store your credit card details. Card numbers go straight from your browser to Stripe, who is PCI-DSS compliant. Stripe shares only a payment reference with us, never the card itself.

How we use your information

• Fulfilling and shipping your order.
• Sending order confirmations, shipping notifications, and warranty correspondence.
• Responding to enquiries you send us.
• About four weeks after an order, emailing to ask how it's going and whether you'd share a review or photos. We only publish your words or photos with your permission, showing your first name and town.
• If you start checkout but don't finish it, emailing you a link back to your cart. This is at most two emails, and we stop as soon as you complete your order. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
• If you tick "Keep me updated by email" in the cart, sending you occasional news from Baitboats. You can unsubscribe at any time.
• Understanding how the site is used so we can improve it.
• Measuring and improving our advertising, including showing our ads on Facebook and Instagram.
• Showing our ads to people who have visited this site before, on Facebook, Instagram, Google Search, YouTube and other websites (known as remarketing).

Who we share information with

We share the minimum necessary information with:

• Stripe, for payment processing.
• The courier delivering your order, for shipping and tracking.
• Resend, our email provider, for sending you order confirmations and any cart reminder emails you asked for.
• Cloudflare, our hosting provider, for serving this website.
• Google (Google Analytics and Google Ads), to understand how visitors use the site and to show our ads to past visitors on Google Search, YouTube and other websites.
• Meta (Facebook and Instagram), through the Meta Pixel and Conversions API, to measure the results of our ads. When you view products, add to cart or start checkout, Meta receives details of that event. When you enter your details at checkout, and when you place an order, Meta also receives your email, phone number, name and postcode in hashed (one-way encrypted) form, along with your IP address and browser details. For orders, this includes your delivery suburb and state.

We do not sell your personal information.

How long we keep it

Order records are retained for at least 7 years to meet Australian tax and consumer law obligations. Enquiry emails are kept while they remain useful for customer support, then deleted.

Your rights

You can request access to or correction of the personal information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. You can also ask us to delete information that we are not legally required to retain.

Cookies

This site uses cookies and similar technologies for cart functionality, analytics (Google Analytics) and advertising (Google Ads and the Meta Pixel). Google and Meta may use these cookies to show you our ads based on your past visits to this site. You can clear or block cookies through your browser settings. You can opt out of personalised Google ads at adssettings.google.com, and control how Meta uses your information through your Facebook ad preferences. Blocking cookies will break the cart but the rest of the site will still work.
