Fishing the beach or salt water?
Step up to the Joysway Fishing Surfer
The Boatman Actor Bait Boat is built for rivers and lakes. For surf and bay work, the Fishing Surfer is the boat made for it.
- Self-righting hull that handles surf up to 1 metre
- GPS with 4-spot memory and auto-return
- Up to 500 metres of range
- 12-month Joysway warranty, handled in Australia
Boatman has a battery life of up to 5 hours with the 10ah battery when used on slow speed setting. You can fit a 5ah battery to boats sold with a 10ah battery. The single-handed remote allows you to hold your rod while taking the line out in the boat, which is handy for feeling the lead down. There are two hoppers, a centre and a rear. These boats take the Mark 4 battery which also gives you the option to charge the remote control or even your mobile phone (USB lead needs to be purchased separately).
The Mark 4 is screwed together rather than glued, which makes it easier to service in the future (only to be opened by our authorised repairer during the warranty period). It also has a built-in compass, so in auto forward mode the boat holds a straight line even in wind or current. Calibrating it takes a single button press.
The Boatman Actor reaches up to 500m on a 2.4GHz controller and is rated Class 3-4 wave resistance for river and lake use. The two hoppers hold 1.5 kg of bait between them (1 kg in the centre, 0.5 kg at the rear) with independent release controls. Top speed is 70m per minute with an auto forward mode for hands-free runs. Running time on a full charge is up to 5 hours on the 10Ah battery, and charging takes approximately 10 hours. A battery LED display with a low-power alert, front and rear lights, dual motors, and a lightweight 2.8 kg build complete the package.
Key Features
500m Range
The 2.4GHz controller reaches up to 500 metres, enough to work structure and channels well beyond casting distance on large lakes, rivers, and bays.
5-Hour Battery (10Ah)
On the 10Ah battery the Boatman Actor runs for up to 5 hours, a full session without returning to shore. A 5Ah battery also fits and gives around 2.5 hours.
Dual Hoppers, Centre and Rear
Two separate bait chambers let you carry different baits or drop two spots on the same run. Combined capacity is 1.5 kg: 1 kg in the centre hopper and 0.5 kg in the rear. One remote button releases each independently.
Class 3-4 Wave Resistance
Rated for rivers and lake conditions. Steady in moderate chop and holds its line cleanly even in light wind and current.
Single-Handed Remote
Hold your rod with one hand and run the boat with the other. The layout lets you feel the lead settle while the boat is still out, which is useful for fishing deep drops.
Mark 4 Build and Compass
Screwed together rather than glued for easier servicing. A built-in compass keeps the boat on a straight line in auto forward mode, and a white front light plus red rear lights, which also show when a hopper is open, help at dusk and after dark.
USB Power Bank Function
The Mark 4 battery doubles as a power bank. Charge your remote control or mobile phone from the boat battery via USB (lead sold separately).

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the battery last?
Up to 5 hours on the 10Ah battery, or around 2.5 hours if you fit a 5Ah battery. Charging takes about 10 hours for the 10Ah battery (about 5 hours for the 5Ah).
How does the Boatman Actor bait release work?
The Boatman Actor has two hoppers, one in the centre and one at the rear, each with its own release control on the remote. Drive out to your first spot and drop the bait from one hopper, then move to a second spot and release the other, all on the same run.
What's the range on the Boatman Actor?
Up to 500 metres with the 2.4GHz controller. Most users find 300 to 400 metres is the comfortable working range in real conditions.
Can I use it in saltwater or only freshwater?
The Boatman Actor is rated class 3-4 wave resistance and is built for rivers and lakes. It's not designed for surf or open ocean use. For beach and saltwater work, look at the Joysway Fishing Surfer instead.
Why two hoppers?
The centre and rear hoppers let you drop bait in two separate spots on the same run, or carry two different baits at once. The centre hopper holds 1 kg and the rear holds 0.5 kg.
What is the Mark 4?
It's the fourth generation of the Boatman Actor. The Mark 4 is screwed together rather than glued, which makes it easier to service down the track, and it has a built-in compass so auto forward mode holds a straight line even in wind or current.
Can I charge my phone from the boat battery?
Yes. The Mark 4 battery doubles as a power bank. You can charge your remote control or mobile phone via USB (USB lead sold separately).
What is the maximum speed?
The Boatman Actor tops out at 70 metres per minute (approximately 4.2 km/h). It also has an auto forward mode that holds a set heading hands-free.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, a 6-month manufacturer warranty applies. The boat is only to be opened by our authorised repairer during the warranty period. See /returns for full details.
